A Hole in the Blanket by Paul PerottaMay 7, 2011
Here is a beautiful native Chumash (tribe from my area in California) story re-told by Paul Perotta, my sweatlodge leader assigned to hold my upcoming women's retreat sweat. Read more about this retreat at:
http://tehnopark-cons.ru/retreat.php Paul's story: The Hole in the Blanket They say that before there were two leggeds, the rocks, the plants and the animals were the people of the
world. They even talked like people. The world was a wonderful place in those early days of creation. Each morning when the people woke up they would think on those things that were good and say "thank you'. They
would stop to watch Grandfather Sun come up in the morning, and they
would give thanks for another day of living, and of loving. They went about their days thinking of how they could offer the gifts they had been given, to help each other. They respected each other's differences, and they learned from each other. When they took from the Mother Earth, they took only what they needed, and they never wasted anything. The
people always stopped to watch Grandfather Sun go to bed and they were
grateful when Grandmother Moon arrived to she her soft moonbeams down
upon
them. Each night, before sleep, they would count their blessings again, and say "thank you". The world was a wonderful place in those early days of creation, and it was this way for many, many moons. Then one day, no one knows when, the people started to forget. As
soon as they would rise in the morning they got busy doing things, and
they would forget to greet Grandfather Sun, and to count their
blessings. The people started getting jealous of each
other, and thinking that others had more than they did, and they started
getting greedy. The people began to disrespect the Mother Earth, and instead of taking only what they needed,
they took all they could get. Instead of thinking of how they could help each other, they thought only of how they could help themselves. The
people got so busy doing things that they wouldn't even notice when
Grandfather Sun went to bed, and they didn't think of Grandmother Moon
at all. The people started separating into their own tribes, and before long , they were fighting within the tribes. The people separated more and more and they started arguing, and hating, and hurting each other. The Creator had been watching all this and at some point said "Enough", and Creator threw a blanket over the whole world. Now the world was
in darkness and the people were frightened. The plant nations began to wither and the clean waters stopped flowing. The people were cold, and hungry and afraid. Each of the tribes did what they could, to try to remove the blanket. None of the stone people or the tree people were tall enough. The swimmers would swim as fast as they could and jump up out of the water, but none came close to the blanket. The four leggeds ran and jumped and climbed, but none came close. Even the flyers could not reach the blanket. It was decided that all the tribes would come together in council and try to
figure out a way to remove the blanket. The day of the great council arrived and all the tribes were there. Members
of each tribe went into the circle and told of how they had tried to
reach the blanket, but had failed. Even the Eagle, who flies highest
and closest to Great Spirit, came nowhere near the blanket. The people were sad and hopeless, and more afraid than ever, and all at once , the people asked for help. Some looked down to the Mother Earth. Some looked up to the Father Sky, and Great Spirit. All at once, people prayed, and just then a little messenger came into the center of the council circle. It was hummingbird. Some of the people snickered and thought, "What can this puny little bird have that can help?" But in the
council circle, every one is allowed to speak, and Hummingbird said, "I have an idea". I can get on top of Crow, and Crow can get on top of Owl, and Owl can get on top of Eagle. Then Eagle can take off and fly as high as he can, then Owl can fly as high as she can. When she is tired, Crow will fly and when he is tired I will take off, and fly as high as I can. Maybe in this way we will reach the blanket." The people looked at each other and thought this was a good idea, and it gave them hope, and the people started to remember. They
remembered that everyone is important, and has their own special
medicine to offer, and that even the smallest things can bring great
gifts. The bird tribes agreed to give it a try. Hummer was on top of Crow, who was on top of Owl, who was on top of Eagle, and Eagle
took off. Eagle flew and flew, higher than he had ever flown before, until he could fly no more. Then Owl took off and flew and flew, and when Owl was tired, Crow took off. Crow flew higher, and higher still, and there was ice on his wings, and when he could fly no more, Hummingbird took off. Hummer flew straight up, as fast as she could. She made it to the blanket and her beak went through the blanket and got stuck. Hummingbird just hung there for a while, resting. Then she shook herself loose and fell back to earth. The people looked up and saw the point of light where Hummingbird had pierced the blanket and they were grateful. The people started to remember more, and they started working together, and thinking of how they could help
each other. All the bird tribes teamed up and hummingbirds kept piercing the blanket. The
rest of the tribes helped in preparing food and getting water, and
finally, one day, Hummingbird made it all the way through the blanket. The Creator saw this and said, "This is the way the people should be living. Honor has been restored to the Creation", and Creator removed the blanket from the world. Once again, the world was wonderful place. The people said, "thank you" every morning, and they spent their days thinking of how they could help each other. They
respected each other's differences, and they respected the Mother
Earth. The
people always remembered to stop doing things and say "goodnight" to
Grandfather Sun, and they said "thank you" again, each night before
sleep. The world was a wonderful place once again, and it was this way for many, many moons,. Then, one day, no one knows when, the people started to forget... Each
month, when the moon is full, we see the hole in the blanket and are
reminded that it's important to respect each other, to work together, to
help each other, and that each one has their own special medicine to
offer the world,
including.....you! Ageless wisdom of the Chumash ancestors, embellished and ofered with love, from Paul Perotta. In these changing times, every smile is a point of light in the blanket. Every loving thought honors all of
Creation. The world will be a wonderful place once again. The grandchildren are coming, and all of Creation needs you. Love is the cure! If this story touches your heart as it does mine, plaese copy and share it as a gift to the ancestors, and to the
grandchildren. Love to all of you.. hope you enjoyed, Magical days, Julie xo Posted by Julie Hoffenberg. Posted In : Family and community Cell phones, boobs, movies, and being WAY too busy!May 2, 2011

Julie Posted by Julie Hoffenberg. Posted In : Health Are you Letting OPPORTUNITIES pass you by?April 20, 2011
Why do we let opportunities pass us by when they obviously feel good?
The answer is different for everyone, but what it all boils down to is fear. The mind starts going into overdrive and tries to convince you of every reason why this opportunity would not work out... - "I'm not good enough." - "It won't work out the way I expect it to." - "It's gonna be too difficult." The list could go on forever. We need to work on opening up to the opportunity instead of squashing it the second it comes rolling in! In the video below I offer some guidance on this topic and move you into a place where you will begin seeing opportunity as an open door instead of an unrealistic distant dream. Magical days, Julie xo Posted by Julie Hoffenberg. Posted In : Taking Action on your Dreams First step to loving yourselfApril 13, 2011
There are so many ways to begin yourself. Too many to count. You can hug yourself each morning. You can honor your purpose and speak your truth. But sometimes women do not know where to start first. In the video below, I mention the first way to begin loving yourself.
It doesn't need to be complicated. Sometimes it is just a matter of assessing what you need to be content. What is the foundation of you? If any part of this foundation is not intact, you may start to crumble away from self love. Please watch below for the complete exercise. Wishing you masses of self-love always! Magical days, Julie Posted by Julie Hoffenberg. Posted In : Self love The Best Meditation I Have Found!April 9, 2011
My dear friend, Randee Vasilakos, recently put out a CD called "Coming Back to the Self: The Om Nama Shivaya Meditation." When I first heard it I thought, "This is going to be very nice." It was, after all a CD from a friend and I had no idea that it would blow my mind! We all kindly smile and nod when our friends put out mediocre books or projects. This is what I thought I might have to do but after I listened to the CD, I was in LOVE!
Although translations differ slightly, Om Nama Shivaya loosely translates to "God dwells within me, as me." What a beautiful mantra to repeat! Along with the mantra, this CD has some guided visualization with Randee to begin relaxing you and then you will drift off to fluits and the beautiful vocal melodies of the Om Nama Shivaya. I was so blessed and excited when Randee told me I could sell her CD on my site. To purchase, please visit http://tehnopark-cons.ru/shop.php or feel free to watch the video below where I give more info and also a sample of the CD. I wish all of you lovely meditations and may you come back to the self. p.s. Makes a better Easter or Passover gift than the typical chocolates and crappy gimics! HA! It can be very confusing to narrow down your purpose, or your gift to the world. We all have one (or maybe a bunch), but no one ever tells us how to tap into it! In this video I talk about how to begin tapping into your purpose so that you can start to fully live it!
For part 1, please visit my youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/rawhealingpatch Here is part 2 where I discuss writing ideas until you cry and asking yourself what you would do for free, if you had to do something for the rest of your life (with no pay!). This is just a start, but I find these things really work for many of the women I have coached! Watch below for more info! Magical days, Julie Posted by Julie Hoffenberg. Posted In : Live Your Purpose How to just do what needs getting done!March 23, 2011
My clients tell me the same thing: I can't seem to get motivated to do my work. How do I do what needs to get done? How do I just get in the zone?
I made a video related to this and it explains these 3 steps: 1. Examine the energy you are in when attempting your work. You need to be in a state of surrender and gratitude to get hings done versus stress, anxiety, etc. Watch the video below for info on how to do this! 2. Act like an animal (see examples my cat gives in the video). Animals think of one thing at a time, deal with that, and then move on. 3. Let your first breath into your task take you to the next. As we work on the first step and that only, the next one will follow. We need to do this first step or else we just end up doing nothing. Enjoy the video and if you want to watch part two, just visit me here when you are done: http://www.youtube.com/rawhealingpatch and feel free to subscribe if you would like! Posted In : Taking Action on your Dreams The "Live your Dreams, Love Yourself Retreat" is here!March 13, 2011I spent the morning immersing myself in the land of the Ojai Foundation. There was magic happening everywhere as I visualized the beautiful ceremonies we will have during my "Live your Dreams, Love Yourself" Retreat. Hawks were swirling overhead and landing in trees just feet from me, people sat quietly in meditation, and a group gathered together for council class. As all of these things happened, I took a deep breath, realizing I am just a few months away from gathering with my own group for meditation, council, nature, silence, laughter, music, art, workshops, sweat-lodge, hiking, and more! My retreat webpage was just finished today and I already have 3 people ready to sign up! I have a feeling this retreat will fill quickly (I may even have to turn people away!), so if you are interested, please sign up as quickly as possible at: http://tehnopark-cons.ru/retreat.php Today I am awake. Today I am present with my purpose. Today I am ecstatic. I wish for you the same... Magical days, Julie Posted by Julie Hoffenberg.
